As regular readers will know, I buy most of my week’s food at the Tuesday market in my town, however if for some reason I miss it, or feel like a change, I go to Arles on a Saturday. The market is huge and runs down both sides of the Boulevard des Lices, alongside the old city walls. One side is vegetable produce, the other side is arts and crafts and plants. There are many of the same producers that come to my town, besides many more. My egg lady is there, the man from St Remy and the olive and tapenade produce stand as well.

There are also spice stalls, selling every herb and spice you could want.
Fresh herbs

Herbes de Provence

Herb teas for that Á la recherche du Temps Perdu moment

And this being the Semaine nationale du champignon (16 – 23 October) national mushroom week, there are plenty of wild mushrooms for sale, should you not trust your own foraging skills.

It is also the season for grapes, biensûr, those that don’t get made into wine…..
And time to make pumpkin soup

There are also pomegranites
If you don’t feel like cooking, you can always buy a chicken hot off the grill with potatoes and vegetables that have been cooking in the jus!
Or you can start from scratch with this little bird.
Bon Weekend and don’t forget to comment below, I always want to hear from you!
Great photos, makes me very hungry
great pics ang may i suggest getting more portraits of the market stall holders holding thier wares and looking at the viewer this can apply to all the charactors you interview or subjets so you biuld up an archive .
O mon dieu – it all looks magical. I wonder where the nearest market like this is to Cucugnan?! xxo ML
Love the chick!!!!!! And the roast chickens dont look bad either!
love the autumnal fare cant wait to see what you will cook next ?
I always forget how nice the Saturday market in Arles is. Next weekend I’ll go for sure. Thanks for the heads up!
What an inspirational entry – it brings me right back to the markets of my favourite Provencal town – Vaison-la-Romaine. Their market has been going strong since the 12th century…
Thanks for the great photos, too.
